WP1000 – Project and User Management
The core objectives of this WP are:
- To coordinate the technological and scientific orientation of the project, to ensure the delivery of the project on time and within the budget and that the project maintains its relevance towards the objectives;
- Appropriate relationships and communication channels with ESA including delivering documents for the milestones (BDR, FAT and FR);
- To interface with the user (CRI), to collect the user’s needs and requirements arranging the Requirements Document and to carry out activities to support the subsequent pilot execution.
WP2000 – Development of SAR screening module
The aim of this WP is to develop a module that starting from the interferometric processing of SAR Sentinel-1 stacks of images will identify and classify the areas most affected by damages to buildings and infrastructures. The back-end interferometric processing of SAR Sentinel-1 images will be performed by using the software Sarscape by HARRIS with the PSI technique.
WP3000 – Development of optical high-resolution module
The goal of the WP is the implementation of an automatic AI change detection algorithm to analyse the VHR satellite data (e.g., WorldView-2, WorldView-3 images), in the urban areas identified as damaged by WP2. One of the main activities is the definition and the scientific development of the change detection algorithm. Moreover, it will be defined the damage degree criteria and the evaluation procedure.
WP4000 – Integrated web platform development
The aim of WP4 is the development of MASAI geographic web platform prototype addressed to the pilot demonstration: the platform will provide the integration of the single components developed in the other WPs. This is the core WP which includes the development of the MASAI platform front-end and back-end. The front-end of the MASAI platform will be implemented to ensure the functionalities listed before and outlined in the scheme of MASAI. MASAI geographic web platform will integrate all the output of WP2000 and WP3000.
WP5000 – Damage assessment verification and validation
The WP5000 is a transversal and scientific WP focused on evaluating the damage assessment service as a whole and its single components and moreover to establish that the MASAI prototype meets the needs of the intended end-user or customer. WP5000 will include the following tasks:
- Define a ground-truth dataset on damaged buildings and road infrastructures (both for training and validation of WP2 and WP3 services) thanks to the expert analysis of VHR images and other supports (e.g., CRI’s databases and on-filed information, Google Street View), or crowdsourcing information (e.g., The Russia-Ukraine Monitor Map, a crowdsourced effort by the Centre for Information Resilience);
- Define and perform test on the damage assessment of WP2000 and WP3000 services and in their integration in WP4000 web geographic platform.
WP6000 – Pilot
The pilot-demonstration activities have the following objectives:
- Fielding the solution: this is the necessary condition to actually understand the effectiveness of the proposed solution;
- Check the actual operation of MASAI and the desired workforce of the working groups serving CRI that should use it: this verification can lead to the efficient integration of all the requirements developed and to validate the effective interlocking.
MASAI prototype (from WP4000) will be integrated in CRI context to become a fully operational prototype. The user will make available and share data access as well as directly contribute to the development of pre-operational validation pilot in the areas of interest and will check all MASAI functionalities. During and at the end of the operational phase, the pilot evaluation will be held to eventually adjust the activities.
WP7000 – Communication
The aim of WP7000 is increasing end-user, other stakeholders, public authorities and scientific community knowledge of availability of methods and tools capable of supporting organizations to forecast, respond to, and manage humanitarian crises. Moreover, the objective is to adequately disseminate and exploit the project results and outcomes to ensure that the information and knowledge created is communicated to the scientific community and citizens too. The proposed consortium will actively participate in the implementation of communication activities at both national and international levels. In addition to other tools, EUCENTRE Education Department is the mean through which the EUCENTRE Foundation could provide highly qualifying training on MASAI platforms and algorithms.
WP8000 – Exploitation–Business Plan
The exploitation activities will be dedicated to discuss, analyse and prepare a business model for the further commercialization of the service beyond the pilot and the conclusion of the project. The main output of WP8000 will be a detailed business plan and the evaluation among the partners of the IP strategy.
